Sugar Fast Day 3
Life still happens when you don’t eat sugar!! What?! Haha! It seems like all you can handle is to NOT EAT SUGAR! But the world still keeps spinning, responsibilities still need to be taken care of, and the people in your life all need to be tended to. Some days we feel a bit rode hard and put away wet. Our inner voice is screaming, “I can’t handle thissssssss!!” And to top it off, as I walk through my kitchen for the umpteenth time and see those little popable brownies staring me down, it takes everything in me not to grab 10 of them and throw them in my drooling mouth.
I’m finally able to open my book to read the devotional for the day. I have probably picked it up 20 times this morning and haven’t been able to even open it. The inability to do this creates an insanity inside of me that I’m not sure what to do with at times. But I open it. I am finally able to read the encouraging words, downing them like they are the sweet nectar of life. Day 3 is hard. I remember this now. But, as I take a deep breath and eat some cashews, I’m reminded of why I’m doing this. For clarity. For purpose. To slow down and listen. And my recent outburst is just the proof I need to see how much I NEED to be doing this, for so many reasons.
How are YOU on Day 3, stranded on this sugar-free, but also sugar-filled island? The good news is that you are not stranded alone. We are in this together. And it gets better and easier and you begin to find this clarity that is beyond this world. Just wait! You’ve got this GB!

Gnarly Tip
Keep your cupboard and fridge stocked with lots of nuts, dried fruits (Raisins & figs tend to not have too much sugar and they are naturally occurring), fruits, veggies, hummus, almond butter, cheese, and lean protein. When I feel the urge to have that “popable” treat, it’s easy to grab for some nuts or raisins instead. Be prepared for the reality of those many moments of craving. You can do this!
