Sugar Fast Day 10

Hello Day 10! We’re a quarter of the way through!

Have you ever hurt yourself when you thought someone had seen, only to realize that no one was paying any mind to you? It’s like a surge of disappointment floods into your heart, because you are so in need of empathy. We are beings in need of love and attention, and while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, this fast is not the time to grimace and groan in hopes that someone may feel your pain.

Today we give thanks. We are blessed. We are choosing to do this fast for our overall well-being. And yes, it is certainly challenging and I commend you for all of the work you have put in thus far. But I’m going to tell you and tell myself for that matter exactly what I say to my kids, “No whining!” If you have been complaining (trust me I have my moments and I’m most definitely saying this to myself as well), today is the day to stop. Stop and replace it with thanksgiving.

As I’ve mentioned before, this sugar fast will change you physically, but it will also pave the way for a transformation of your mind, heart, and soul. That’s big time stuff. And YOU can do it! You are made for greater things.

The other morning, as I bundled my little ones up in the stroller, and got our dog, Bear, ready for our walk, it started sprinkling. We continued on our walk as the rain came down more heavily. I’ve never been too bothered by the rain. I kind of enjoy it at times. I’m not one to carry an umbrella or suddenly bolt for an awning overhead because rain is starting to fall. BUT I am a whiney baby sometimes. Especially when little things that aren’t going my way begin to pile up. I find myself, dare I say, almost having a temper tantrum of sorts.

My point is that we all have something that brings us to a point of stomping our feet. Today we are going to focus on all that we have to be thankful for on this sugar fast journey. Even if it starts to pour and you feel like you are drowning, turn up the corners of your mouth, welcome a smile, and thank God for the children and dog you are pushing, your feet connecting to the Earth beneath you as you walk a bit faster towards your warm, dry home, and for the smiling mailman that has to be out there all day long. Whatever it is that you have to give thanks for, focus on it today. No more groaning on about not being able to devour the ice cream staring back at you as you open your freezer. We have endless things to be thankful for! Today’s the day you GB! I’m thankful for you and that you are on this adventure with me. You’re killing it!

Gnarly Things to Check Out

Tip: Start by being thankful for the things we tend to forget about. The things of your autonomic system that occur involuntarily, such as: your breath flowing, your heart beating. Start with an inner thanksgiving and then everything else will easily follow.
