Sugar Fast Day 23
Happy Day 23!
We live in a society of comfort. We want all of our needs met all of the time. And if they’re not, we sometimes have a wee bit of a meltdown. I have been in a chaotic season of life, that I strive to find balance and grace in, but at times fail to do so. I get anxious and stressed and am quick to flip my lid. All things that I am constantly working on being better at.
We have a tendency of responding with a bit of a tantrum when something isn’t going our way, or the expectations we have for a particular situation are thrown out of whack. So as we continue on this fasting journey, we need to consider where we’re at in our comfort. Are we getting a little too comfortable in our sugar-free world that we’ve simply begun coasting along? Replacing sugar with something else to eat to avoid any discomfort? Have we hit a plateau where we are becoming stagnant? Where growth is ceasing?
Remember we are fasting. We are yearning and hungering for a transformation of our entire beings. The thought is that it is a major comfort to eat whatever you want, whenever you want to. We must remind ourselves not to become complacent and to explore outside of our comfort zones. Yes, we’ve eliminated those obvious sugars, but make sure that we don’t just simply replace them with something else. We are fasting and should at times be hungry.
Let’s push through the discomfort with the least amount of friction, even attempting to do it with grace and mindfulness, and go beyond it to the other side. So, next time you push yourself or unwillingly get pushed out of your place of comfort, take a breath and smile that it is only part of your journey. It is necessary in order to get to that place where you thrive and prosper.
